Lesson 6 Part 2 Challenge

Social media is safe (or so they think) to bully others by who and what they are. I fear that bullying by teens in person can be just as traumatizing online. Finding weaknesses and exploiting that is how bullies work in this society. Bullying and social media are connected because hiding behind a computer is the best way for an attacker or a group to prey on a suspected weaker person. Social media is a wonderful way to find an old friend but there is evil in the world and that = to bullying online.

Lesson 6 Part 1 Challenge

I think it is hilarious that this article I have to read is blocked by the city filters. I'll read this on my laptop or the library's laptop laters!

I can talk about how social media has impacted me historically to present. I remember when correspondences/letters used to be by snail mail" or handed to me in person. It was slower but the impact was stronger then than now I think. Now, I have email that I never clean out because it is too overwhelming. I like Facebook because of how quickly we can connect with memories past and present. I also see how FB can be tricky if you say things and get "unfriended". I have accounts on Twitter and Youtube, but not Instagram. I still type Instagram like Instangram with an "n". I don't see how Instagram is important. I guess because I don't take many pics. I do love my Pinterest and Goodreads and they both have social media connections aspects.

Lesson 5 Challenge

Internet Search Challenge was a neat and fun exercise to find the effective words for searching. I did well in effective and "stop words". I didn't need any improvements. What I needed improvement was finding ineffective or words with little effect. I seem to need help distinguishing between the two. Good to know!

Lesson 3 Part 2 Challenge

I believe that the two libguides that would be of use to my fellow staff are the Caldecott Medal and Newbery Medal. We received reference questions on what books are on the recent and prior lists.  Instead of trying to look for them elsewhere online, we can just look at our libguides as a guide to show our patrons. These are excellent sources for us to find the right books at the right time.

Lesson 3 Part 1 Challenge

ANXIOUS HARRIET
Along came a student, Harriet, that did not have a lick of a chance to complete her writing assignment in time come in to Landa for help. She did not know how to start or where to begin. I asked her what her topic was and she started to shake from worry. I helped her with her anxiety by using research under the Student Research Center database. It gave her cool choices to narrow her source materials.
RELAXED HARRIET
Harriet was researching, printing and writing her paper, but needed images, commercial-free, to add some pizzazz. She did not seemed too worried about getting the images she needed. I showed her our Image Collection database and she asked why not use Google as her images. I said, "Relax! I'll show how fast and safe an image search can be!".
HAPPY HARRIET
After researching, writing and adding her images, Harriet asked me to review her paper and I said, "I have the best tutor to help you!". I helped her by showing her Live Homework Help's tutors who proceeded to help her make her paper into the best project she has ever done!

Lesson 2 Part 3 Challenge: Outlook

I liked the new way (prior to 2013) the signature is, but I was instructed by an IT professional that we shouldn't be too heavy on the pictures on signatures.Unfortunately, I do have a badge on mine.

I did not make a customized tab but I thought that was a cool idea. I don't know if i'll do one, but who knows!
